Color Inspiration | Sophisticated French Vintage Palette

French vintage color is restrained, slightly faded, and cut with black or navy. It comes from the ready-to-wear look of the 1960s and 1970s: a limited wardrobe, good cloth, and colors that had already been worn rather than colors mixed to shock. Cream, tobacco, burgundy, faded navy, dusty rose, and warm grey are the usual set. Pure white appears less often than ivory.

The sophistication is in the dosage. Black is used as a line — a pump, a turtleneck, a slim belt — not as a head-to-toe block. A burgundy skirt with a cream blouse, or a navy jacket over a pale rose dress, is enough. Patterns, when they appear, are small: a check, a thin stripe, a quiet floral.
