This summer and fall, Moricore style is gaining increasing popularity. Today, we’ll take an in-depth look at this hugely popular fashion trend. “Mori” means “forest” in Japanese — reflecting a core ethos of natural, rustic, and comfortable aesthetics that convey a relaxed, effortless, and elevated sense of sophistication.

As we move into 2024, Moricore has gradually evolved into a “natural relaxation style” that emphasizes texture, rhythm, attitude, and commute-friendly adaptability. It focuses on the relationship between clothing and the body, pursuing designs where “fabrics feel breathable, silhouettes have room to flow, and wearers feel truly themselves.”

A breathable outfit is a fabric decision before it is a style. Linen, cotton poplin, a loose silk, and an open knit let air move. A synthetic satin and a tight lining do not, however light the color. The commute version needs one piece that can take a bag strap and a bicycle or a train seat. The vacation version can be looser, but it should still survive a wash.

Color, for this kind of dressing, stays pale or earthy so the wrinkles and the sun look intentional. One structured piece, a shirt with a collar or a trouser with a crease, keeps the soft cloth from looking like sleepwear. Wear the palest note away from the city dirt, and keep a slightly deeper shoe so the hem has something to meet.
